De Kunsten zijn hier verbeeld door Schilderkunst en Muziek. Schilderkunst is voorgesteld als een bevallige vrouw. Met een palet in haar hand beschildert zij een paneel. Aan haar voeten zit Muziek. Van een rijk man als De Flines werd verwacht dat hij de Kunsten zou bevorderen. Voor deze kunstminnaar was het onderwerp van dit schilderij dus zeer toepasselijk.
