Tegen de achtergrond van de Haagse hofvijver passeert Maurits met zijn lijfwacht en gevolg. De figuur rechts naast hem is zijn jongere broer en opvolger Frederik Hendrik. Direct achter hen staan de belangrijkste hofdienaren. Allen dragen elegante, modieuze kleding. De rijk geklede vrouw links is mogelijk Maurits’ geliefde Margaretha van Mechelen.
