'Irregular Arcs from Four Sides,' created in 1997 by Sol LeWitt, features the artist’s signature combination of simplified colors, shapes, and lines. LeWitt was a pivotal figure in the conceptual movement in the 1960s and 70s, driving “idea” art into the mainstream. Through wall drawings, paintings, sculpture, and prints, he explored what constituted a work of art and subordinated the artist’s hand to their thoughts. This process was in direct opposition to Abstract Expressionism, which was the dominant style at the time, and catapulted art history in a new direction.
