Studentbostadshuset "Gubbhyllan" uppfördes 1930 av Uppsala studentkårs stiftelse efter ritningar av R. Engströmer och E. Högström. Byggnaden var då en av de första studentkorridorerna i Uppsala. Endast manliga studenter var välkomna och huset fick därför namnet Gubbhyllan av studenthumorn.
