Byn växte fram under 1700-talet och var som störst under 1800-talet. Byn är oskiftad eftersom inga husutflyttningar skedde i samband med skiftena. 1945 lades jordbruket ner. 1960 förvärvades byn av Vitterhetsakademien. Under många år restaurerades både husen och det gamla kulturlandskapet. Avsikten är att bevara en gammal småländsk by med det omgivande landskapet i hävd.
