Området var från början en blötmyr. I folkmun gick området under namnet "Kortmyran" då den var ett tillhåll för kortspelare. Marken ägdes av SJ eftersom järnvägen gick genom området. 1920 påbörjades arbetet med parken, sedan man köpt marken av SJ. Man gjorde en damm, planterade träd och flyttade ned gruvstugan från Baron för att användas som cafe. Karakteristiskt för Svanparken är fontänen, som är den enda i sitt slag i Norrbotten. Den byggdes 1958 av svensk-amerikanen Swan Carlsson, född i Malmberget. Stenarna till fontänen är från olika vitt skilda länder, bl a Amerika, Grönland och Spetsbe…
