Statligt byggnadsminne 1935-01-25. Omkring 1290 etablerade cistercienser ett nunnekloster vid Strängnäsfjärden. Klostret hade grundats redan under andra hälften av 1100-talet men det är oklart var det då låg. Från 1233 låg klostret vid Fogdö kyrka och kallades då Fogdö kloster. I samband med flytten till dagens Kungsberg ändrades namnet till Vårfruberga kloster. Liksom många andra klosteregendomar drogs Vårfruberga klosters avelsgård in till kronan av Gustav Vasa efter reformationen.
