Karlskrona (Karlskrona sn). Residensstad och svenska flottans örlogshamn sedan 1680-talet med ursprunglig stadsplan med unika barockdrag och äldre bebyggelse på Björkholmen och Trossö. Örlogsvarvet och omfattande befästningsverk leder sitt ursprung till anläggningstiden. Befästningstornen Godnatt och Kurrholmen uppfördes 1857-63. När de stod klara var de som befästningstorn redan omoderna. De bara murverken kunde inte stå emot det då nya och moderna artilleriet. Tornen är de sista exemplen på en fästningstyp som omhuldats i Sverige alltsedan medeltiden, nämligen kärntornet.
