Limhamn levererade mycket av materialet till all cement och betong som användes i byggandet av folkhemmet. Limhamns kalkbrott var en gång Europas största dagbrott. Kalkbrottet är 1.600 meter långt och 800 meter brett med ett djup på 60 meter. Här har markägarna, Heidelberg Cement, vision om en ny stadsdel med arbetsnamnet Scanstad som innehåller allt ifrån boende till verksamheter, företagsparker samt anläggningar för sport och rekreation.
