Efter andra världskriget var bostadsbristen stor i Stockholm. Många nya bostadsområden planlades enligt nya idéer - tunnelbaneförstad med ett sk ABC samhälle - Arbete, Bostad & Centrum. Västertorp var tänkt som ett BC-område - Bostad & Centrum. Stadsplan upprättades 1947 av Sven Markelius och Bertil Tideström. Det var första gången man i Stockholm fick separata gångvägar med planskilda korsningar mellan dessa och matargatorna. Efterkrigstidens folkhem var en social och politisk vision av stora mått. Rättvisa och trygghet, välfärd, folkfostran och demokrati skulle byggas in i det svenska samhä…
