Allt sedan August Blanche på 1830-talet begravde sin hund här, har platsen fungerat som en sista viloplats för stockholmarnas husdjur. På 1970-talet ville myndigheterna stänga gravplatsen, men efter protester från allmänheten så var man tvungen att acceptera den. Nu är det Stockholms Kennelklubb som förvaltar kyrkogården.
