Jernvallen kan ses som den svenska bruksidrottens största monument. Bruksdisponenten Karl Fredrik Göransson, överlämnade anläggningen till de anställda 1937. Han ville sträva en "sandvikenanda", en mötesplats för olika grupper i samhället. Det skulle vara en plats för samverkan mellan ortens befolkning och bruksledningen.
